The Basilica Block Party starts Friday night in Minneapolis. Getting there this year could be tricky with road closures.

The message from the Minnesota Department of Transportation this weekend is be patient.

Drivers will likely have to get creative planning their route downtown Minneapolis to the Basilica Block Party.

1. Plan your trip there and back ahead of time.

2. Familiarize yourself with the different state and city construction projects.

3. Check out MnDOT's traffic flow map before you get stuck.

"You are not going to be able to just exit off northbound 35W necessarily and get right smack dab into downtown like you've done in the past," MnDOT communications specialist Kent Barnard said.

There are alternate routes so make sure and watch out for detour signs.

There's also a lot of city-run construction taking place in downtown Minneapolis, so drivers will still have their work cut out looking for a parking.
