Authorities in Anoka County say one person has died in a three-vehicle crash Monday night in Ham Lake.

Three vehicles were involved, Sommer said, and three people needed to be extracted from vehicles. According to authorities, the incident appeared to have begun with a head-on collision between two vehicles and a third vehicle struck the other two after the fact.

According to authorities, the sole occupant of one vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Three occupants - an adult and two children - of a second vehicle were transported to nearby hospitals. Their conditions have not yet been released. The driver of the third vehicle was uninjured, authorities said.

The Minnesota State Patrol was assisting Anoka County with crash reconstruction, according to a spokesperson.

Sommer said the crash was likely weather-related. The incident marks the second known fatality from a day that brought inclement weather that caused slick roads throughout the state.

The state patrol reported that by 8:30 p.m., there had been 388 crashes (excluding the Ham Lake crash), and 244 vehicles that spun out and/or went off the road. The other fatality occurred on Highway 61 near Brighton Beach in Duluth, according to the State Patrol incident report.
