Wayzata Rallies in Second Half, Defeats Hopkins

The Wayzata Trojans came back from a 15-point halftime deficit to beat the Hopkins Royals 70-66, Friday night at Wayzata High.

The Royals came out of the game dominating, jumping out to a 12-0 lead. Star sophomore Paige Bueckers lead the first-half charge for Hopkins, highlighted by three steals that lead directly to easy layups. Bueckers ended the game with 15 points.

Bueckers play, along with a multitude of Trojan turnovers, lead to the Royals leading 44-29 at half.

However, the undefeated Trojans lead a furious comeback in the final 18 minutes. Junior guard Mimi Schrader lead the rally, scoring 15 second-half points. Schrader finished the game with 20 points. The win improves Wayzata to 16-0 on the season.

Hopkins falls to 14-2 with the loss.
