Jeff Overbaugh was living at his girlfriend's mother's house in Temecula, California when the call arrived.  After several workouts with National Football League teams over the course of the season, the Minnesota Vikings were going to sign him. He made his debut Sunday in the Vikings game against Chicago.

Overbaugh joined the Vikings after starter Kevin McDermott was injured in the game at Green Bay in Week 16.

The Vikings placed McDermott on injured reserve prior to Week 17, meaning the job is Overbaugh's as long as the Vikings remain alive in the postseason.

Overbaugh, a native of Anchorage, Alaska, had a collegiate career that was almost hard to believe.  He was absolutely perfect as a long snapper at San Diego State: 134-134 on extra point snaps, 55-55 on field goals and 164-164 on punts.
