Byron Buxton, ranked by most as the best prospect in all of baseball, was knocked unconscious for ten minutes in a collision with a fellow New Britain Rock Cats outfielder.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan announced on the Rock Cats radio broadcast Buxton suffered a concussion, but had no structural damage.

"That was very scary," Ryan said. "It could have been a lot worse. We are grateful for the concussion. it has been that type of year, but he is going to be fine.  He's a battler."

Buxton and Mike Kvasnicka were each pursuing a ball hit into the rightfield gap at full speed in the Rock Cats game against Bowie.

Kvasnicka made the catch just as Buxton dove headlong, crashing into Kvasnicka's hip with his head and shoulders.  Both players crashed to the ground.  Several in attendance posted on twitter that the collision was remarkably violent.

Both players remained on the ground after the collision. Yahoo! Sports writer Jeff Passan reported Buxton was unconscious for ten minutes.

Kvasnicka was down for a short while, but was able to get up and walk off under his own power.

An ambulance drove onto the field where paramedics stabilized Buxton on a backboard, and loaded him into an ambulance.

Rock Cats players gathered in prayed for Buxton as the ambulance pulled off the field and headed to a nearby hospital.

A Twins source told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Buxton was awake and responsive upon arriving at the hospital.
