Minnesota Wild left wing Thomas Vanek says he's cooperating with federal authorities conducting an investigation in New York.

The former Buffalo Sabres star was seen coming out of a federal court building in downtown Rochester, New York, on Monday morning.

A law enforcement source tells KSTP sister station News10NBC that Vanek is connected to an ongoing gambling investigation centered around Marina Restaurant and Bar in Charlotte.

Three men, including restaurant co-owners Paul Borrelli and Joseph Ruff, are facing 23 counts of illegal gambling. Borrelli and Ruff both live in New York.

According to the FBI, the men used several offshore Internet gambling websites to provide the "line" and tally totals won or lost by bettors. They then would conduct face-to-face meetings at the bar, among other places, to exchange money.

Vanek's agent, Steve Bartlett, tells News10NBC that Vanek was at the federal court building to discuss his role as a witness in an investigation.

Bartlett issued this statement on Vanek's behalf:

Representatives of the U.S. Federal Government have asked for my cooperation in an investigation. I am not the subject of any investigation or prosecution. I will fully cooperate with the U.S. Federal authorities in their investigation or in any proceedings arising out of it.

The 30-year-old Austrian played nine seasons for the Buffalo Sabres before being traded to the New York Islanders last year. Vanek was then later dealt to Montreal. He signed a three-year, $19.5 million contract with the Wild on July 1.
