Since the Xcel Energy Center was built in 2000, the scoreboard and lights systems around the arena have been the original. Starting with the beginning of the Minnesota Wild's pre-season games, a new $6 million project has been put in place to give fans the ultimate experience for games and concerts. A new $3 million scoreboard is being constructed along with lights for advertising and scores will be replacing the older light systems around the arena.

Jim Ibister, the Vice President of Facility Administration for the Minnesota Wild/GM of St. Paul RiverCentre, said, "This scoreboard and upgrades will enhance the fans experience for Minnesota Wild hockey games, as well as high school state events as well as concerts."

The scoreboard will be 5 to 6 times bigger than the old one and fans will notice right away the difference in how the activities in the venue will be experienced.
