Eden Prairie Family Snags Two All-Star Home Run Derby Balls

They were perched in the front row of the upper deck, perfectly positioned for the Home Run Derby.

Eden Prairie's Koering family, four of them, were thrilled to see Minnesota Twin Brian Dozier send a shot their way in the opening round of the Home Run Derby curving their way.

As it descended toward them, Adam Koering caught the ball amid his two sons and daughter - who was directly in the ball's line of flight.

"It was curving over, I reached over to protect my daughter and caught it," Koering said.

"I never thought that would happen," admitted Adam's son Ryan.

"I wanted to go to the all-star game in 1985, but just couldn't make it," Koering continued. "To now to be here with my kids, it's what it's all about."

That one home run ball would have been a nice enough souvenir.

But as 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS cameras were interviewing the Koerings, Baltimore's Adam Jones drove another shot straight at them later in the first round.

Koering came to the rescue again, snaring the ball this time just inches in front of our photographer.

"I can't believe it.  I don't know what to say," said Koering after snagging his second souvenir of the night. "I saved my daughter... now I'm happy I could help you guys out, too!"
