11 Minnesotans, 1 Gopher Taken in Major League Baseball Draft

After Mounds View High School star Sam Hentges was taken in the fourth round of the MLB Draft by the Celveland Indians, a slew of Minnesotans followed in the later rounds.

The Twins selected two players who attended Robbinsdale Cooper High School. 9th-round pick Max Murphy is currently a centerfielder at Bradley University and 21st-round right-handed pitcher Onas Farfan of Ridgewater College is the first product of the Twins RBI, or Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities, Program to be taken in the MLB Draft.

Other in-state players the Twins selected: Red Wing native second baseman Pat Kelly - who has been attending Nebraska; Eden Prairie native Blake Schmit, a shortstop at Maryland; Mahtomedi RHP Mike Baumann; Rochester Mayo C Brad Mathiowetz.

Three Minnesota collegians were drafted: Minnesota Gophers RHP Alec Crawford, MSU-Mankato RHP Jason Hoppe of Sauk Rapids and St Cloud State RHP Kyle Fischer from New Ulm.
