Virginia joined Florida, Wichita State and Arizona as a No. 1 seed Sunday when the selection committee announced the pairings for the NCAA tournament.
The Cavaliers, widely considered a 2 or 3 seed in many mock-ups of the bracket, instead vaulted to the top of the East region. They won the ACC regular-season and tournament titles.
March Madness begins Tuesday with a pair of "First Four" games in Dayton, Ohio.
The Gators bring a 26-game winning streak into the tournament. They are seeded first in the South and are the No. 1 seed overall.
Wichita State, the top seed in the Midwest, comes in at 34-0 - the first team to enter the tournament undefeated since UNLV in 1991.
The Final Four starts April 5 in Arlington, Texas.
Midwest Region Notes
Wichita State still had something to be angry about on Selection Sunday. The second-ranked Shockers landed the first No. 1 seed in school history and will start their pursuit of a second straight Final Four on Friday in St. Louis, where they ran their record to 34-0 by winning the Missouri Valley tournament last weekend.
That's where the reward for their season ended, though. They landed in a loaded region that includes second-seeded Michigan, third-seeded Duke and fourth-seeded Louisville, the defending national champion.
Relying on their motto of "play angry," the Shockers are the first school to reach the NCAA tournament unbeaten since UNLV in 1991.
They'll open against the winner of a game between Big West champion Cal Poly and SWAC champion Texas Southern.
West Region Notes
Arizona is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament's West Region despite losing the Pac-12 championship game to UCLA.
The Wildcats (30-4) will face No. 16 seed Weber State on Thursday in San Diego and could have a tough matchup in the second round, facing the winner between Oklahoma State and Gonzaga.
Wisconsin was the No. 2 seed in the West and will open with American in Milwaukee on Thursday.
Creighton and player of the year front-runner Doug McDermott are the third seed and face Louisiana in San Antonio.
Other match-ups include Oklahoma-North Dakota State, Oregon-BYU, San Diego State-New Mexico State and Baylor-Nebraska.
The West's regional round will be Mar. 27-29 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
