Former Carolina Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn signed a 3-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings Thursday afternoon. A source tells KSTP Sports the contract is worth up to $15 million. Munnerlyn, 25, had spent his entire five-year career with the Carolina Panthers.
The Vikings confirmed the signing Thursday afternoon.
The Vikings finished last in pass defense last season, so Munnerlyn could prove a valuable asset in the secondary. He's described as a player who fits Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman's personality.
Munnerlyn had a career-high 74 tackles and 3.5 sacks last year. Five of his career seven interceptions have been returned for touchdowns. According to Pro Football Focus, Munnerlyn was thrown at 98 times in 2013 and only gave up one touchdown. He can play inside and outside, like former Viking Antoine Winfield.
