TCF Bank Stadium will host an international soccer match this summer. The University of Minnesota announced Thursday Manchester City and Olympiacos will play Saturday, August 2 as part of the The Guinness International Champions Cup.
"The University of Minnesota and its Athletic Department are proud to be a part of such a prestigious series and to host two of the most famous clubs in the world," said Director of Athletics Norwood Teague. "TCF Bank Stadium has hosted some of the most exciting events in recent Twin Cities history and we look forward to welcoming another memorable event."
Presale tickets went on sale Thursday, and the general public will be able to buy tickets starting Saturday.
The Guinness International Champions Cup tournament will feature eight teams: Real Madrid CF, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool FC, AS Roma, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Olympiacos. Twelve round robin contests will be held in cities throughout the United States, including New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Charlotte, N.C., Denver, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Dallas.
The championship game will be held August 4 in Miami.
