The metro area gets tons of hoops exposure, and for good reason. But we like to write about the outstate kids too, especially ones flying under the radar.
Carson Seifert - No. 243 in Northstar Hoop Report's class - blazed the nets for Mankato Loyola en route to a win over Martin County West on Jan. 14. The senior guard went off for 42 points on an efficient 16-22 shooting and earned NHR and KSTP’s Player of the Week award.
Seifert plays football and baseball as well, but basketball is what he’s focused on playing in college. He plays shooting guard for coach Tim Anderson, but the 6-footer’s future is likely going to be at point guard. He’s got the requisite speed and jumper to score steadily.
According to Seifert, the location of his college will not be important; he just wants go to a school that will give him an opportunity. The Seifert family reports getting contact from the UMAC, MIAC and smaller Division II teams.
Just like Reggie Meyer of Totino-Grace and so many other multi-skilled athletes, Seifert’s commitment to summer baseball kept him out of the AAU basketball circuit. Regardless of the exposure he potentially missed a few months ago, he’s doing well enough in the winter to catch some attention.
