After two World Series, one Super Bowl and 32 years of memories, it was the last hurrah for the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

Sunday's game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions marked the last time the public will enter the downtown Minneapolis stadium before it's demolished, a process that starts next month with the deflation of its iconic roof. The Vikings were able to walk away from the stadium with a win, and 64,000 people attended the game.

Metrodome security didn't want a repeat of what happened following the last game at Met Stadium when fans rushed the field, ripped down the goalposts and ripped out seats.

Two weeks ago fans told KSTP they were planning to take more than just memories. Some said they were planning to take seats out of the Dome at the last game. A KSTP crew did see a couple of people walking away with property from the Metrodome Sunday. Someone had a section sign and someone was carrying a folding chair. There were also some tweets showing photos of chair back and cup holders ripped off.

The Metrodome opened in 1982. For many years it was home to both the Vikings and baseball's Minnesota Twins. The Twins moved across town to Target Field in 2010.

The Vikings marked the end of the Dome after Sunday's game with an on-field ceremony featuring retired players and star running back Adrian Peterson.

The Metrodome site will be home to the new Vikings stadium, which is scheduled to be ready for play by the 2016 season. For the next two years, the team will play outside at TCF Bank Stadium. The team will pay for upgrades like new turf, heating coils under the turf and possibly temporary seating in the West Plaza.

Vikings officials tell KSTP they are still working with the U of M on stadium improvements and changes.
