The Minnesota Vikings have ruled out running back Adrian Peterson for their final game of the season.
Toby Gerhart (hamstring) is also inactive. Matt Asiata starts instead.
Linebacker Audie Cole (ankle) is out. Erin Henderson moves from the weak side to the middle to take his place. Fred Evans starts at nose tackle for Letroy Guion (quadriceps). Marcus Sherels starts for cornerback Xavier Rhodes (ankle), but Rhodes is suited up.
Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has been held out of the season finale.
Kevin Ogletree is in the starting lineup Sunday at Minnesota for Johnson, who has been bothered by a knee injury for much of the season. Johnson finished with 1,492 yards and 12 touchdowns in 14 games.
Other starters out for the Lions: right tackle LaAdrian Waddle (ankle) and cornerback Chris Houston (toe).
The Vikings announced Saturday they downgraded Peterson from doubtful on the original injury report to out against Detroit Sunday, when the Vikings and Lions will play the last game at the Metrodome.
Peterson sprained his right foot Dec. 8 at Baltimore and sat out the following week against Philadelphia. He played last Sunday at Cincinnati but was mostly ineffective. Peterson acknowledged afterward the injury affected his performance. He has also been bothered this year by a sore groin.
Peterson finished the season with 1,266 yards rushing, the second-lowest total of his seven years in the NFL.
