Jason Kidd, hired to coach the Brooklyn Nets just days after retiring as a player, has a pending court case in New York stemming from a drunken driving arrest.
Kidd has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor DWI. Suffolk County prosecutors on eastern Long Island confirm that Kidd's case is scheduled in Southampton Town Court on June 20.
Defense attorney Edward Burke Jr., said his client is not expected to attend that proceeding because several legal motions filed in the case have yet to be decided. He did not elaborate.
Kidd suffered minor injuries when his vehicle hit a pole and veered into the woods in Water Mill last July. Kidd later posted a message on Twitter regretting what happened.
The misdemeanor charge carries up to a year in jail.
