Video: Hockey Team Cuts Off Hair to Support Teammate
Holy Angels Hockey Coach Billy Hengen got all of his hair cut off. He did it in support of one of his players.
"It's for a good cause so, I think it's a good thing to do for Tony," Hengen said.
Hengen is talking about star forward Tony Haeg of Lakeville. The senior was diagnosed February 9th with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Initially everyone thought it was pneumonia. he just got home after a week of chemotherapy treatment at the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital. Before going in for treatment Tony cut all of his hair off. He knew he would lose it during chemo.
To show support Tony's teammates got their hair cut off last week. Tuesday night, all the teams coaches showed up a Haus Salon in Minneapolis to do the same. They were a nervous looking bunch.
"We want to support Tony and we think it's a great way to show him that we are in the fight with him," Hengen said.
Haeg is considered one the top 3 scorers on the team. he planned to finish out his senior season and play junior hockey and then college hockey. But all of his plans are now on hold. Teammate Frankie Mark says, Tony is truly missed.
"Funny guy, he would always have us laughing. He would always be the one if we're in a down mood to get us smiling, he's a great kid," Mark said.
Hengen says, the team is like a family, and family takes care of family.
