Source: Twins Nearing Extension With Reliever Jared Burton
In a season that was mostly disappointing, right-handed reliever Jared Burton was one of the bright spots for the Minnesota Twins in 2012.
And now it appears the Twins will reward him.
The Twins and Burton are close to finalizing a two-year contract extension with a team option for 2015, according a league source. Financial terms of the deal were not yet available, but it's believed Burton will receive a slight raise.
Burton, 31, posted a 2.18 ERA with 55 strikeouts and only 16 walks in 62 innings for the Twins last season.
Burton has a history of shoulder problems, but the Twins managed his innings carefully and got him through the season without any problems. He is expected to be the main set-up man for closer Glen Perkins next season.
