Timberwolves Sign Brandon Roy

Brandon Roy is coming back with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

"I'm excited to be back," Roy told KJR Radio in Seattle, where he had been working out before reaching a verbal agreement with the Wolves.

As previously reported, it'll be a two-year deal. The total package will be worth $10 million, although a Wolves source said the contract will provide sufficient protection in case Roy's knees force him to retire a second time.

Roy, 27 and a three-time All-Star, sat out all of last year because of bad knees. He was a free agent because Portland used its amnesty clause on him.

The Timberwolves sent owner Glen Taylor, president of basketball operations David Kahn, coach Rick Adelman, and trainer Greg Farnam to visit with Roy, his agent, and one of Roy's close friends last Friday in Seattle.

The source said the Wolves were satisfied with everything Roy verbalized to them about his health.

Working out daily in Seattle, Roy is probably best-suited to play about 20 minutes per game.

He underwent a version of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, which is helping him to resume playing. Lakers guard Kobe Bryant is one of a handful of athletes who have undergone a comparable procedure in Germany to help prolong their careers.
