The St. Louis Park high school football team reached the state tournament for the first time in school history after beating Robbinsdale Cooper 13-12 in the Section 5AAAAA Championship Game on Friday night.

St. Louis Park quarterback Johnny Sorenson scored on a one-yard plunge in the first quarter.

Cooper answered in the second quarter when Cameron King lofted a pass to the endzone and Adrian Adams hauled it in for a 37-yard touchdown. The extra-point was blocked and St. Louis Park took a 7-6 lead into halftime.

The two teams exchanged touchdowns late in the 4th quarter, but St. Louis Park held on for the win. It was Cooper's only loss of the season.

St. Louis Park will play Brainerd in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament.
