Schierhorn Earns Shutout in Gophers Win Over Army

Eric Schierhorn only needed 13 saves to earn his 11th career shutout as the Gophers men's hockey team beat Army 3-0 Friday night at 3M Arena at Mariucci.

Gophers captain Tyler Sheehy opened the scoring 10:01 into the first period with a wicked wrister for his sixth goal of the season. Defenseman Jack Sadek gave the Gophers a 2-0 lead 16:41 into the third period with a shot that deflected off an Army defenseman. Leon Bristedt then scored an empty net goal with 42 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Gophers outshot Army 33-13. Minnesota (11-9-1) goes for the sweep on Saturday night.
