Since Teddy Bridgewater went down with a severe knee injury in August 2016, there has been buzz about the potential of his contract carrying over to 2018. It appears that will not happen.

NFL Network's Ian Rapaport is reporting that Bridgewater will become a free agent rather than have his contract toll to next season.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement states that a player who is physically unable to perform through at least the first six weeks of his rookie deal will have his contract carry over. Bridgewater was on the PUP list through Week 6 but would have filed a grievance had the contract been tolled.

Rapaport's report says that the Vikings are not planning to claim that it should be tolled, however, GM Rick Spielman said during Super Bowl week that the matter was in the league's hands.

Bridgewater will become a free agent on March 14 unless the Vikings sign him to a new contract.
