Gophers Drop Season Opener to Duluth in Overtime

The Gopher men's hockey team dropped their season opener to Minnesota Duluth 4-3 in overtime on Friday night at Amsoil Arena in Duluth.

Parker Mackay scored the game-winner goal for the Bulldogs 1:45 into the extra frame. The Gophers have now lost eight straight games to UMD.

After Mikey Anderson opened the scoring for Duluth in the 1st period, the Gophers built a 2-1 lead in the second period on goals by Tommy Novak and Scott Reedy. UMD tied it back up only 23-seconds in the 3rd period when former Blaine Bengal Riley Tufte scored a power-play goal for the Bulldogs.

Jack Ramsey brought the Gophers even 3:09 ino the 3rd, but Joey Anderson tied it back up only 40-seconds later and it went to overtime tied at 3.

On the second day of the Ice Breaker Tournament in Duluth, The Gophers will face Union at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
