Head coach Bill Schafhauser knows that every year there is one goal he and the team shoot for.
"The goal is always to play to the end of February." Schafhauser said.
Schafhauser knows that is a tough task for any team, but is impressed with this group of players he has.
"Every team has a little bit difference of a personality," Schafhauser said. "And, this one is still finding their way. I am really impressed with this group. I think they got a lot of experience, lot of talent. So, I think they got a lot to look forward to this season for sure."
One player whose play speaks for itself is Abigail Boreen. She won awards for being the east metro girls hockey Player of the Year for the 2016-2017 season, but has not stopped improving as her time in high school winds down.
"Her overall game has really improved," Schafhauser said. "She can become more physical, taller, bigger, stronger, she's really an impressive player."
So impressive that Boreen caught the eye of the Minnesota Gophers and accepted a scholarship to play her college hockey here in Minnesota.
"We got to visit the [university]," Boreen said. "And, we started talking to them. And, I've always wanted to go there since I was like 5 [years old]. So, when we got in contact with them, I obviously wanted to say yes. That made my decision pretty clear."
Abigail grew up watching Gopher hockey. The fact that she will now be apart of the Gopher community is hard to describe for Abigail.
"I mean, I can't even put words into my mouth," Boreen said. "I'm so thankful that I'm going to be able to go there and to have that opportunity. So, I'm really happy."
The Pioneers are 4-2 so far on the 2017-2018 season, with Boreen netting seven goals.
