December 15, 2017 07:15 PM

Gophers athletic director Mark Coyle sat down with our Darren 'Doogie' Wolfson to talk about P.J. Fleck's extension, men's hockey attendance issues, what he's learned in his 18 months on the job, how much Rick Pitino is welcomed around the men's hoops program, and more.

Fleck's 1-year, $3.75M extension through the 2022 season was unanimously approved the U's Board of Regents this week.

Coyle touched on the momentum building the football program, pointing to next week's 2018 Signing Day where the Gophers are expected to have the top-ranked recruiting class in the Big Ten West.

Coyle acknowledged that what weighs on his mind the most is convincing co-workers, donors, fans, and others that he's here for the long haul -- he's the Gophers' 4th AD in the last five years. Stability within the athletic department is a must to have sustained success. Coyle pointed out that nine senior administrators have departed in the last few years, and that we're on the third head football coach in the last years. Coyle wants to keep people here for a long time.
