Eagan Skates by Eastview, Reaches State Tournament for First Time Since 2013

The Cinderella run has come to an end.

The Eagan Wildcats girls hockey team overcame a late second period deficit to defeat the Eastview Lightning 4-3 in the 3AA Section Final at Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights.

Eastview came in as the sixth seed, coming off upsets of Park and Apple Valley to reach the section finals.

It was a back-and-forth contest, where each team traded goals until late in the second period. Eastview was trailing 2-1 when freshman forward Mikayala Kelley scored two goals for the Lightning to put them up 3-2 with just over six minutes remaining the period.

Eagan came storming back when sophomore forward Julia Barger scored for the Wildcats to tie the game with 49 seconds remaining in the second period. The Wildcats scored again when sophomore Bella Weaver put one in the net with just six seconds left in the period. Weaver's goal ended up being the game-winner.

The win puts Eagan back in the state tournament for the first time since 2013.
