Caledonia made its way into the Class AA championship game for the third consecutive season on the strength of a 49-16 victory over Paynesville Area in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 16 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Warriors (12-0), the two-time defending champion, rolled to a 42-0 halftime advantage en route to earning a spot in the Class AA championship game for the fifth time since 2011. In each of the four previous trips, Caledonia emerged with the championship trophy.

Senior quarterback Owen King completed 13 of 16 passes for 214 yards and three touchdowns to spur Caledonia’s quick start. Junior running back Nick McCabe rushed for 106 yards on nine carries and added two touchdowns. McCabe’s second touchdown, a 4-yarder with 7:39 left in the third quarter, gave the Warriors a 49-0 lead.

With the fourth quarter being played in running time because of Caledonia’s lead of at least 35 points, Paynesville Area (9-3) scored two touchdowns. Junior running back Zach Schroeder had a 39-yard scoring run for the Bulldogs early in the fourth quarter and sophomore Caden Spanier added another with a 23-yard TD reception from sophomore quarterback Grady Fuchs.
