U.S. Rep. Tim Walz announced he has picked State Rep. Peggy Flanagan to run as his lieutenant governor, according to a release from his campaign team.

Walz said the two plan to campaign under the theme "One Minnesota".


The two will make a formal announcement at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the American Indian Center in Minneapolis.

"Peggy is going to make a wonderful lieutenant governor for the state of Minnesota," Walz said in a statement. "Peggy's vast knowledge and expertise will be something I rely on daily."

Flanagan is the state representative from District 46A, which represents Golden Valley, Medicine Lake, Plymouth and St. Louis Park.

If elected, Flanagan would be the highest ranking Native American state-level office holder in U.S. History, according to the Walz campaign.
