State Sen. Osmek to Formally Announce Run for Governor

Republican State Senator David Osmek is planning to formally announce his candidacy for governor of Minnesota Tuesday.

In a statement sent to the KSTP newsroom overnight Monday, Osmek said Minnesotans are “looking for someone who is willing to fight for the average person."

According to the statement, Osmek is currently serving his second term in the state Senate. He graduated from St. Cloud State University, works as a project manager for United Health Group, and lives with his wife, Kari, and two daughters in Mound.

Osmek will be the ninth Republican to enter the 2018 governor's race.

There are also six DFL candidates.

Governor Mark Dayton is not running for re-election.
