May 09, 2017 07:12 PM

In tonight's Political Insider, Tom Hauser and analysts discuss:

The Firing of FBI Director James Comey

President Trump abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey Tuesday, saying he no longer had confidence in him to lead the bureau. In a statement, Trump says Comey's firing "will mark a new beginning" for the FBI. The White House says the search for a new FBI director will begin immediately. Comey's firing comes days after he testified on Capitol Hill about the FBI's investigation into Russia's election meddling and possible connections between Russia and Trump's campaign.

Budget Negotiations Continue at State Capitol; Governor Dayton, Republicans No Closer to Deal

Budget negotiations continued Tuesday at the State Capitol. Governor Dayton and Republican House and Senate leaders emerged from meetings to say that while some progress is being made, the reality is they're still very far apart on coming to a deal. Republicans worked through the night Monday to prepare budget bills to send to the Governor without reaching an agreement with him. They say they've grown frustrated by the slow pace of negotiations. A budget deal must be reached by the end of the legislative session on May 22.
