KSTP political insider Tom Hauser talks with St. Olaf Associate Professor of Political Science Christopher Chapp and Augsburg University Political Science Chair Andrew Aoki about the pressing political issues of the day, including:
Trump's Rhetoric at the United Nations
U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday in heretofore unheard of rhetoric at a United Nations General Assembly meeting threatened the "total destruction" of North Korea should its leader, Kim Jong Un, does not abandon its drive toward nuclear weapons.
Trump also asked for cooperation from nations like China to impose sanctions on North Korea in an attempt to slow down its weapons proliferation.
Potential Legislative Shutdown
The clock is ticking on the State Legislature and Gov. Mark Dayton to arrive at a compromise with a funding termination deadline of Oct. 1 looming. The state Supreme Court ruled Dayton's veto of legislative funding was constitutional, though the court made clear the ruling did not end the matter.
Mediation hasn't even begun with the deadline under two weeks away.
