After announcing he would step down from the Senate two weeks ago, Sen. Al Franken has finally announced his resignation date.
Michael Dale-Stein, a spokesperson for Franken, said the senator plans to resign on Jan. 2. Tina Smith, Gov. Mark Dayton's nomination for Franken's seat, is scheduled to be sworn in on Jan. 3, according to Dale-Stein.
Franken resigned from the Senate on Dec. 7 after multiple women accused him of inappropriate sexual conduct.
During his resignation speech, Franken said he still plans to be vocal about policy issues.
"I may be resigning my seat, but I am not giving up my voice," the senator said.
