Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton Tuesday criticized President Donald Trump's decision to let the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program expire six months from now.
Dayton even went so far as to call the decision "lunacy."
"It's just shameful," Dayton said while greeting students outside Meadow Lake Elementary School in New Hope. "I mean you have Republican members of Congress as well as Democrats saying this is the wrong way to go."
Dayton said there are more than 6,000 Minnesotans protected from deportation under the DACA program. He worries about what might happen to them, their families and even the state economy.

"Here in Minnesota we have a shortage of skilled workers," Dayton told reporters. "So we're going to take some 6,200 that are here under DACA and send them away?
The superintendent of schools in Robbinsdale, the district in which the school the governor visited Tuesday is located, said it's unclear how many families in his district might be impacted.
However, he noted students in the district speak 73 different languages.
"When students come in the first day of school we're very excited about it," Dr. Carlton Jenkins said. "At the same time, we're very sensitive to the fact this (DACA decision) is looming over our heads."
