New Approval Ratings for Gov. Dayton, Legislature Reflected in KSTP/SurveyUSA Poll

Our new KSTP/SurveyUSA poll is shedding light on how well Minnesotans think Gov. Mark Dayton and legislative leaders are doing their jobs. There's also evidence many Minnesotans aren't paying close attention to the legal battle between the two parties playing out in the Minnesota Supreme Court.

A decision could come any day from the court in the case of Dayton's line-item veto of legislative funding. There's also a chance the court will decide not to rule on the constitutionality of the veto and will decide the Legislature will have enough funding to keep operating until the next legislative session begins in February.

So what do Minnesotans think of the dispute? According to our KSTP/SurveyUSA poll, 33 percent agree with Dayton's veto, 31 percent disagree and 37 percent say they're not sure.

Our poll also shows Dayton's approval rating dropping to 47 percent, down from 51 percent less than a year ago. The Legislature's approval rating is at 27 percent, down from 30 percent more than a year ago.

Political scientist Steven Schier of Carleton College says the wishy-washy poll numbers indicate Minnesotans view the skirmish as a political food fight.

U.S. Bank Stadium Operator Faces Tough Questions over Fired Security Company

The company that operates U.S. Bank Stadium faced harsh criticism from lawmakers this week over its hiring of a security company that had major problems, and has since been fired. Monterrey Security of Chicago was fired from its work at the stadium last month and replaced by two Minnesota firms. Lawmakers were stunned to learn about security workers being bused in from Chicago and dozens of workers who had serious criminal histories.
