Three people were arrested, including one male with a small child who was allegedly in possession of 18 grams of heroin, after a high-speed chase involving a stolen pickup from the Minneapolis area early Sunday in Sawyer County, Wisconsin.

According to a release from the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office, a deputy observed a red truck traveling north on County Highway K near County Highway E in Bass Lake at around 3:55 a.m. Sunday.

A silver-colored car was following the pickup and appeared to be traveling with it. The truck did not stop when the deputy turned on its sirens and a chase ensued, reaching speeds of 70 to 95 miles per hour.

The truck proceeded to stop on County Highway KK, where an adult passenger and small child exited and ran to the side of the road. The pickup drove away, but the deputy remained with the man and child.

That man, 26-year-old Michael P. Croupe, was reportedly taken into custody on an active arrest warrant. He was also alleged to have been in possession of 18 grams of heroin.

The child, meanwhile, was turned over to the custody of an adult relative.

A few minutes later, the release states, the deputy saw the same silver car approaching on County Highway KK. It ran over spike strips and continued on to County Highway K. It was subsequently located by other deputies. The driver, 22-year-old Casey L. McKnight, was arrested for operating after revocation and obstructing an officer.

A 19-year-old woman was reportedly located hiding in the trunk. That woman, Davine M. Wade, was also taken into custody on an active arrest warrant.

The red pickup was eventually located in the driveway of a residence on County Highway KK.

The entire incident remains under investigation.
