'He Could Take Your Breath Away': Minnesota Woman Reflects on Meeting Tom Petty

Fans around the world are mourning the loss of Tom Petty, including one Twin Cities woman.

Laury Myhre-Manwarren had a special meeting with the rock superstar when he played the Xcel Energy Center last June.


Myhre-Manwarren has terminal cancer and her dying wish was to meet Petty. Petty and his band met her before the concert and dedicated the song "Walls" to her during the show.

"He could take your breath away," Myhre-Manwarren said. "That he took the time was amazing."

Myhre-Manwarren said Petty's death has helped her face her own mortality. 

"It's still hard to believe," She said. "I can't believe I'm here and he's gone. His passing made it easier for me to now accept the fact that I have to go."

During the meeting Petty told Laury they would see each other in heaven.
