Warm temperatures Friday brought out a large crowd of people waiting to experience Super Bowl Live on Nicollet Mall.
Broadway-star Idina Menzel kicked off the evening, performing for the crowd on Nicollet and Eighth Street. She sang her hit "Let It Go" from the movie "Frozen."
The 10-day free event officially opened to the public Friday afternoon and stretches over six blocks in downtown Minneapolis.
People quickly began checking out the dozens of activities, including large ice sculptures and the American Birkiebeiner Bridge, where kids cross-country skied all afternoon.
Minneapolis natives Kate and Paul Habegger said they were impressed with the amount of things to do.
"It sounds like there's just something for everybody," Kate Habegger said.
"They were really wise to spread the entertainment all over," Paul Habegger said. "I think it's going to help with the crowds."
The Anderson family, also from Minneapolis, said they decided to come on the first day, before all of the out of town guests get to the Twin Cities.
"We've only seen a block, but the one block we've seen has been awesome," Beth Anderson said. " It's really kind of fun to see the community come together and see everyone support each other."
