Summer Harvest for Kids: Urban Ventures

June 01, 2017 05:43 PM

Our summer harvest for kids campaign kicks off next week. We're trying to raise $150,000 to help feed hungry kids this summer.

One of the four organizations benefiting from our campaign is urban ventures. They have a variety of programs to help kids in need.

One program is a unique way to run a CSA. The City Kid Farm is led and managed by youth. They use an acre of garden land on the greenway, along with hydroponics, an orchard, bee hives and even six acres of land in Lakeville, all to provide fresh produce for the CSA.

What makes it different than other CSA's is that for every share you buy, you give the same share to a local family in need.

"We're reaching out to the extended community, not just Minneapolis. Our members are coming from the suburbs and they have the ability to create the relationship within our neighborhood, " said Gina Rios from Urban Ventures.

Our Summer Harvest Campaign will help keep this program going. The big day to donate is June 8. This year, we'll be live out at Mall of America from 4:30 in the morning until 10:30 at night! You can stop by and check out the fun in the rotunda where we'll have entertainment or give us a call or donate online.
