Summer Harvest: 5-Year Old Sophia Sunshine Chips In To Fight Hunger

June 01, 2017 05:44 PM

When 5-year-old Sophia Sunshine saw a woman asking for money on the side of the road in order to buy food for her kids, she told her mom she wanted to help.

"She said 'Next time we're driving in the car, I want to bring my piggy bank.' I said, 'Why?' and she said she didn't want kids to be hungry," said Sophia's mom Jennifer.

So Sophia decided to donate her entire piggy bank to The Food Group - a hunger relief organization based in the Twin Cities. The group helps distribute food and promotes healthy eating with over 200 partner food shelves and meal programs.

We're hoping her story inspires you to help hungry kids too.

You can do it through our Summer Harvest for Kids Campaign.

It runs all day on June 8.
