Officials say they were attempting to serve a civil commitment order a man’s apartment building in the 3400 block of 53rd Avenue just before 11 a.m. The man stated he would not be cooperative with police, and deputies say they heard a noise that sounded similar to a shotgun being loaded. A short time later, the entire building was evacuated for public safety purposes. A total of 28 units were evacuated. Officers were able to determine the suspect was by himself in the residence. Numerous efforts were made to contact the patient to let him know we wanted to help him. Over five hours later, the Brooklyn Center Police Emergency Operations Unit was used to gain entry into the patient’s apartment. The suspect, only identified as a 45-year-old man, was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital per the judge’s order. |
