The Minnesota State Patrol says a wrong-way driver caused a serious crash in Minneapolis overnight.

The crash happened on Interstate 35W near Fourth Street around 12:20 a.m. Friday.

According to the State Patrol, a woman was driving southbound in the northbound lane of I-35W when she hit another vehicle.

The wrong-way driver was identified as 56-year-old Claire Jacobson of Minneapolis, who is in serious condition. The State Patrol erroneously identified her as the victim in the other car,  but that has since been changed. The State Patrol says alcohol was detected.

The victim in the other car is 32-year-old Janessa Sturtz of Minneapolis, who has non-life threatening injuries.

Several lanes of I-35W were shut down for a few hours as officials reconstructed the crash.
