A 23-year-old man was rushed to the hospital early Monday morning after he was hit by a car while crossing the street in Minneapolis.
An off-duty officer saw the crash on the 2700 block of Lake Street near 28th Avenue South just before 2:30 a.m., according to Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder.
A white Cadillac sedan was heading east on the road and hit Luis Angel Cruz-Guzman as he was walking across the street, Elder says.
Cruz-Guzman was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis with serious injuries. He was in critical condition on Monday.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Kaleb Joseph Conway, left the scene of the crash, Elder says. The off-duty officer followed Conway in a marked squad car and pulled him over.
Conway was subsequently arrested, and Elder says alcohol was likely a factor in the crash.
