A brand new open sign was flashing in a shatter-proof window during the reopening of the Mounds Park Lounge on St. Paul's east side. A Molotov cocktail went through the old window last January and destroyed the bar.

"I almost walked away," Owner Bill Spiess said.

Spiess reopened the bar even though the arsonist is still on the run.

He bought it at the end of last year and planned to open in early 2014. Two arson attacks delayed the opening. The second nearly closed the business before it started.

"I decided about a week after that, after the little pity party that I had, that I'm going to move forward and make it better than it was," Spiess said.

Spiess repainted the outside, rebuilt the bar top and, most importantly, installed shatter-proof windows.
