One person was killed and two others are in custody after an officer-involved shooting just outside a Ramsey day care center Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle with three men inside in the parking lot of the Learning Lodge Day Care Center on the 6000 block of 157th Lane Northwest around 3 p.m.

According to police, officers arrived on the scene, and one suspect got out of the car and started running. Two officers then chased the suspect, who allegedly pulled out a handgun. Police say that's when officers shot the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead. Two other suspects in the car were arrested, according to police.

A perimeter was set up around the Learning Lodge, and roads near the area were closed, according to Ramsey police dispatch.

The day care was placed in lockdown for about an hour. The children were brought over to a church across the street, and parents arrived in tears to pick up their children.

No kids were hurt.

"I just got a phone call and heard something happened in the neighborhood. We are just happy kids are safe. My heart just started jumping out of my system a little bit. Just happy to pick him up and bring him home," one parent said while holding his son.

No officers were injured.

Additional details were not immediately available.
