It’s football season, which means contact on the field and a real risk of getting a concussion.

This year, college teams and even top rated players in the NFL will be wearing a brand new helmet.

The new helmet is built to reduce the impact of head-to-head contact, which is a leading cause of head injuries on the field.

Players from 16 NFL teams and a dozen college football squads will wear a different type of helmet.

It is the first new helmet design in decades, built to reduce head-to-head impact.

Riddell, the biggest helmet manufacturer in the country, doesn't claim its new helmet will stop concussions. They say its flexible panel will absorb more of the energy on impact.

Many doctors believe football concussions today are caused by shearing, rotational forces, when the head snaps back and swerves around on the neck, and the brain slams against the inside of the skull. That makes it difficult to stop concussions.
