Minneapolis Police are investigating reports of shots fired outside the emergency room entrance at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Minneapolis Police Spokesman John Elder says no one was injured, but there is some damage. Police say bullets damaged the exterior of the building, but it's not severe. There were shattered windows, and an SUV was hit.
The call came in around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities say there was some sort of confrontation outside HCMC and a member of one group decided to shoot at the members of another group.
A pile of 23 shell casings was left scattered on the street about 100 feet from the hospital entrance.
Police say HCMC locked down briefly, even though the building was not the intended target.
Authorities say the suspects ran away before police arrived. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and following up on leads, and no one is in custody.
The investigation is ongoing. It's the third gun-related incident near the hospital this year.
