One elementary school teacher in the Twin Cities got quite the surprise Tuesday morning.

Etta Rassier teaches preschool at Fair Oaks Elementary in the Osseo school district. While sitting in on an all-staff meeting, she was recognized for her work - as National Teacher of the Year.

The nonprofit Kids in Need Foundation selected Rassier because of her project for literacy, called Learning Through Dramatic Play.

Coworkers cheered her on as she walked up to the podium to accept her award. She says she was surprised and grateful to her colleagues and the foundation for the recognition.

In addition to massive bragging rights, Rassier also scored a $500 gift certificate to Staples for her school.

Kids in Need is a charity aimed at preparing children to learn and providing school supplies to students in need.
