A memorial service is set for the two women killed at a home near Madison, Wisconsin.
A Fitchburg police lieutenant says charges are likely early this week against Andy Steele, a retired Dane County sheriff’s deputy suspected in the killings. He is being treated at a hospital for injuries consistent with a suicide attempt.
Fitchburg police say Steele is suspected of killing his wife, 39-year-old Ashlee Steele, and sister-in-law, 38-year-old Kacee Tollefsbol, of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, on Friday. A memorial service has been set for 2 p.m. Friday at Church of St. Michael in Stillwater.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ashlee Steele Memorial at any Wells Fargo branch, refer to account 658 421 6003. The money will go to benefit the children they leave behind.
The Steeles have two children while Tollefsbol was the mother of four.
Ashlee Steele was well-known in the church community; she taught preschool. Kacee Tollefsbol went to nursing school and is a newlywed. She got married three weeks ago and lived in Lake Elmo.
Fitchburg police say the women were found shot in Steele's home.
The 39-year-old deputy took a medical retirement this summer. Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney says Steele's former colleagues are trying to "make sense out of nonsense" in dealing with the deaths.
