This past weekend I attended the sold out Kid Rock concert at the Minnesota State Fair and it was awesome.
I have seen Kid Rock several times in concert before and I would have to say that his performance at the State Fair was the best by far.
I think it was the mixture of the crowd, the fair atmosphere, weather and the energy that Kid Rock brought on stage that made this concert one of the best I have seen at the Minnesota State Fair.
Blackberry Smoke opened the show, they were special guests of Kid Rock. I thought they were awesome and I really liked them a lot.
Blackberry Smoke is a southern rock band from Georgia. The band members are: Charlie Starr (Guitar/Vocals), Richard Turner (Bass/Vocals), Paul Jackson (Guitar/Vocals), Brandon Still (Keys), and Brit Turner (Drums).
I thought they sounded great and I really liked their style of music. There is just something about southern rock/bluegrass that I really enjoy.
I thought that Blackberry Smoke was a great band to open the show with.
It didn’t take long for the crew to switch between Blackberry Smoke’s and Kid Rock’s sets.
As the crews were working hard, the Grandstand filled up and people were anxiously waiting for Kid Rock to start the show.
Kid Rock has one of the best intros that I have seen and I get goose bumps every time I hear it. He starts out with reciting the opening lyrics for “Devil without a Cause” and then when he gets to the chorus he appears on stage. It is just the perfect build up and the crowd goes absolutely crazy as soon as Kid Rocks comes on stage.
Kid Rock played for an hour and a half and did not take one break which was amazing. He had the crowd pumped up the entire show. I have seen many sold out shows at the Minnesota State Fair, but I have not seen a crowd this into a concert. Everyone was dancing in their seats and singing along to all of his songs.
Kid Rock is an extremely talented musician in my opinion and he showed off his musical talents by playing guitar and drums when he did a cover of Ted Nugent’s “Catch Scratch Fever.”
He also gave us a taste of his DJ skills by mixing some music on the turntables.
Kid Rock and his band, which includes eleven other members sounded amazing. They played all of their hits and the set list included: “Cowboy”,” Bawitdaba,” “Born Free,” “Only God Knows Why,” “All Summer Long,” and “Picture.”
Overall, I really thought that Kid Rock put on an amazing show and it was probably one of the best concerts that I have seen at the Minnesota State Fair. The Grandstand is the perfect place to watch a concert, because you have the fair atmosphere and I don’t think that there is a bad seat in the entire place.
I had an amazing time and I also really liked Blackberry Smoke and thought they sounded fabulous. I can’t wait to see who will be playing at the Grandstand next year.
