Officials have identified the two people who died after a stabbing and a shooting in south Minneapolis.

Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder said the cases of a 46-year-old woman who died in the stabbing and the 53-year-old man who died in the shooting were not related.

The first happened around 11:40 p.m. Friday when officers found a man, identified as Kenneth Madison of Minneapolis, with a gunshot wound on the 2700 block of Blaisdell Avenue South. He died at a local hospital around 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

About 2 1/2 hours later, police responded to a report of a struggle and found a woman, identified as Nanette Marie Haghi, with a stab wound to her chest in the area of 4th Avenue South and Franklin Avenue East. She died of her injuries at a local hospital just after 3:45 a.m.

Police arrested 59-year-old Rico Patrick Howard in connection to Madison's death on Sunday morning as he was allegedly trying to flee the state. He has been booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center.

At last check, no arrests had been made in connection to Haghi's death.

This isn’t the first time Howard has fled from police. Back in 2000, Howard caused a crash and refused to stop for police. Howard ran a stop sign and hit another car, according to the criminal complaint.

Twenty-eight-year old Jennifer Stebleton died, and a passenger was injured in that crash.

Howard initially pleaded guilty to murder, but he was eventually sentenced for fleeing police in 2003. He was released in 2011.
